  • What is Thatcham approved van security

Thatcham van alarms, immobilisers and GPS tracking systems have been tested and approved by Thatcham Research, a UK-based organization that specialises in vehicle security. Thatcham alarms are highly regarded by insurance companies, and having a Thatcham-approved van security can often lead to lower insurance premiums.

There are two main categories of Thatcham security: Category 1 and Category 2. Category 1 alarms are the most sophisticated and offer the highest level of security. They include an alarm and immobiliser

Category 2 are less sophisticated than Category 1, but they still offer a good level of security. They do not include an alarm but the electronic immobiliser prevents the van being driven off without a key.

All new UK spec vans are equipped with Thatcham category 1 or 2 van security. If your van is very old or an import than you can fit an aftermarket Thatcham security system.

You can check if you van has a factory fitted Thatcham alarm and/or immobiliser here.

If your van is fitted with a Thatcham category 2 immobiliser you can upgrade to Thatcham cat 1 alarm and immobiliser, check if your van can be upgraded from Thatcham category 2 to category 1 here.

If you are considering having a vehicle alarm system installed, it is important to choose a Thatcham-approved system. This will ensure that you are getting a high-quality alarm system that will help to protect your vehicle from theft.

Here are some of the benefits of having a Thatcham alarm:

Lower insurance premiums: Many insurance companies offer discounts to drivers with Thatcham-approved alarms. This is because Thatcham alarms are highly regarded as being effective deterrents against theft.

Peace of mind: Knowing that your vehicle has a Thatcham alarm can give you peace of mind, knowing that it is more likely to be protected from theft.

Reduced risk of theft: Thatcham alarms are designed to deter and detect theft. They can alert you to any unauthorized entry or tampering to your vehicle, and they can also make it difficult for thieves to start and drive away with your vehicle.

If you are looking for a way to improve the security of your vehicle, having Thatcham security installed is a great option.
